Episode 4: God and his tricks...

Afreen exchanged looks with Zoya wondering who exactly Sarah is. It’s the first time they have heard about her.

For her own reasons, Zoya was not even interested in taking the conversation further. But she always wished good for Emaan. Understanding she cannot covet Emaan, Zoya finally broke her silence.

“Who is Sarah? I have never heard from you about her...We know almost all your friends in college...She does not seem be one from here....” Zoya bombarded him with all that was going on in her mind.

Even Afreen added, “Yes, true...Who is she? And where did you meet her all of a sudden? Just two months ago till our exams were going on, you were single”.

Emaan took a deep breath,” Okay. Okay...Yes, it really happened all of a sudden. Even I did not realise when I started getting drawn towards her.”

Emaan, though very observant, could not read the expressions of Zoya while he spoke about Sarah. Emaan that way is very dumb.

Zoya asked him further, “So tell us more...Like why, how, when....”

“Zoya, do you remember, the last time I called you? Yes, yes, after the exams got over?” Emaan tried to remind her.

“Oh yes, you said that you have got some job. In some, let me think...” Zoya tried to recollect.

“Yes, into a retail industry....as a fashion consultant”, Emaan tried to help her recollecting.

“Oh yes, I remember now. Also, you mentioned that you were offered Rs. 25K per month. Not that bad for the first job, ya”, Zoya could remember few things.

Afreen was bewildered,” How come Emaan, you did not tell me about your new job?”

“Afreen, I had called you but you did not receive my call then”, Emaan tried to vindicate himself.

“Achhchha let it be...Anyways, that’s beside the point. Tell me about Sarah...So, you met her during the interview?” Afreen was desperate to know it now.

“No... Not during the interview. Let me explain. I am now working with a brand named Timberland and she works with another brand -Tommy Hilfiger”, Emaan started revealing more about Sarah.

“So, you met her in Thane (a place in Mumbai)?”, Zoya remembered what Emaan mentioned about his job location on his last call.

“No... No... No... I met her in Malad (another place in Mumbai), Infiniti Mall”, Emaan tried to clarify.

Understanding that Zoya is wondering about how Emaan went to a mall in Malad from Thane (his first job location), Emaan further elucidated,” Sometimes, God plays his own tricks to make people meet. I think the same happened to me.”

Emaan continued while Zoya and Afreen get riveted in the conversation, “My manager wanted me to shift to Malad store from Thane. You know what, I had become very comfortable in Thane. As it was not a very running store, I had less customers to attend to. Everything was fine.”

Afreen and Zoya were puzzled, “But why did he want you to move?”

“My manager and me never got along very well. He wanted to see me troubled in a running store working like hell. So, even after requesting several times to let me work in Thane store, he did not budge and I unhappily had to move to Malad Infiniti mall”, Emaan had a strange smile while saying all this thinking that he would have never been able to meet Sarah unless he shifted.

Afreen could connect the few dots, “Oh I get it now! So she used to work at Infiniti Mall in Tommy Hilfiger?”

“Yup, right...Afreen”, Emaan nodded.

Afreen could not control expressing her excitement,” Tell me more...How did you meet her for the first time?”

“How I met her comes much later. The precursor to that is how we noticed each other for the first time”, Emaan intrigued them further.
